Golden Crown Guest House – Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon

Travel Guide: Golden Crown Guest House Accommodations, Hong Kong Itinerary and Expenses

Best things to do in Hong Kong

Updated travel guide as of 2017, places mostly covered are Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok, Jordan, Victoria Harbour, Sha Tin and Lantau Island. This trip is planned ahead of time from airline to accommodation. It’s best to contact the hotel/guest house directly through the website. Inquiries and reservations can be done online. Golden Crown Guest House (GCGH) requires a deposit of HK$1000 ($130) via PayPal or credit card, the rest of the balance can be paid upon arrival. The reception also exchanges $ to HK$ with a rate not lower than 7.7 , they also have discounted tickets to Disneyland, Ocean Park, The Peak Tram, Macau Ferry and the rest of the tourist spots in HK. I recommend purchasing tickets in advance to save time. For detailed travel tips – Travel Guide: Things to do in Hong Kong and Macau where to find the cheap swags and food joints!

Transportation to and from airport, purchase Octopus card at International Airport Arrivals, this card is refundable. There are options to reach the city proper: bus (CityFlyer), MTR (airport express), or taxi. Airport bus is the most convenient route to get to the city proper. Look for the Airbus station located near the Arrivals (Level 5) of Hong Kong International Airport. Come across the Airport Shuttle Bus Number A21 or the Hung Hom KCR Station. The bus departs every 10-15 minutes. Upon entry, swipe your octopus card and secure your luggage before finding a seat. The bus has a space allocated for the luggages. Travel time from the airport to Kowloon district takes about 40 – 80 minutes depending on the traffic situation. For Tsim Sha Tsui, the bus stop is at No. 13 (Cameron Road) or right in front of MTR Station (Tsim Sha Tsui) along Nathan Road. Service time of A21 is from 5:00AM to 12:00AM, you may use N21 airport bus at the same place and bus stop if your arrival is after 12midinught (00:00AM) and before 5:00AM. Alight at Cameron Road in front of CitiBank and walk around 1-minute to reach Golden Crown Guest House (beside Standard Chartered Bank).

Guest houses in the city are typically small, they maximize space well to compensate for the expensive lifestyle and culture. If you yearn for more spacious accommodation and quality service there are hotels that offer such kind of service. Since our itinerary is mostly on the road, we retire at almost 11-12 midnight, thus this set-up suits our accommodation requirements.

When in Tsim Sha Tsui you can walk around endlessly for a day-tour adventure. There’s so many activities to get preoccupied with from dining, shopping, sightseeing, street photography and the area is swarmed with landmarks to wander and fabricate vivid memories. These are the notable local spot is TST:

Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon District)
– Haiphong Road
– Nathan Road
– Canton Road
– Granville Road: Non-branded shopping, Lung Shing Dispensary (cheapest source of cosmetics, perfume, and body care).
– Hong Kong Space Museum
– Museum of History
– Hong Kong Science Museum
– Avenue of Stars
– Symphony of Lights
– Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront
– Star Ferry Harbour
– Victoria Harbour
– Old Clock Tower
– Kowloon Park – HK Avenue of Comic of Stars
– Kowloon City and Kowloon Walled City Park
– Avenue of Stars
– Symphony of Lights
– Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront
– Star Ferry Harbour
– Victoria Harbour
– Old Clock Tower
– Kowloon Park – HK Avenue of Comic of Stars
– Kowloon City and Kowloon Walled City Park
– The Peninsula Hong Kong
– Shopping district: Harbour City, Park Lane Shopper’s Boulevard

– Sky 100 (closer to Kowloon Station)

From personal experience, affordable and authentic food we enjoyed most are from the streets of Haiphong Road, Parkes and outlying streets in Jordan, and Mongkok. Nathan Road adjacent to Jordan has the creamier egg waffle compared with that from Hong Kong Snack from Parkes Street. We visited twice the bakeshop (Joiex) from Haiphong, and must try their croissants, egg tarts, food, tarts, and nut cookies. Night food market is alive at Jordan in Parkes Street. We love the Hong Kong Spice Crabs menu from seafoods to spicy chicken wings and garlic broccoli. This street transforms into a traditional HK restaurant, across the Hong Kong Spice Crabs, we tried authentic noodles, fried noodles, beef briskets, fish skin side dish, seaweed soups, etc. But the coffee, honey-lemon and aloe juices and milk tea are always must-haves for every order, this is to compare the difference of milk tea taste buds. What we like from traditional restaurants are the relish and herb dressings.

  1. Hi, thank you for your blog about Golden Crown, this is very helpful! We will be going there on October, but we will be coming from Macau, we’re planning to ride the china ferry terminal because it’s in Kowloon as I have read. If I may ask, what is the best transportation going to Golden Crown, we’ll be travelling with my 2 year old son together with our luggages. Hope to hear from you, thank you!

    1. Hi Che! From China Ferry terminal it’s a 5-minute walk along Canton Road-Haiphong Road, when you reach Nathan Rd., Golden Crown is right across the street. Both tourists and residents move, walk a lot! But if you really need a ride, just take a cab (flagdown is around HK$20). Enjoy your vacation! 🙂
